What is the difference between DDS and DMD?

Both Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) are the same degrees; they just have different names. The only difference between the two is in regards to which university the dentist attended.

Why the Different Names?

In the 1800s, some dental schools adopted the Latin term Medicinae Doctoris, and some dental schools chose an English translation, so it really just depends on the school’s preference.

Our Doctors' Credentials

At Carousel Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, our two board-certified pediatric dentists hold DDS degrees. After Dr. Katie and Dr. Kyle completed an undergraduate degree and a difficult four-year dental program, they went on to complete a 2-3 year pediatric residency. Then, they were required to pass national and state board exams, ensuring they were qualified to provide excellent care to their patients.

Two Skilled Pediatric Dentists in One Office

At our dental office, we value education and continual learning; that way, we can give your child the quality care they deserve. So, regardless of whether our two board-certified pediatric dentists have DDS or DMD after their names, rest assured your child will be in good hands.
